LSST Concept


LSST: The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope

This instrument consists of an 8.4-m f/1.14 primary mirror, a 3.9-m secondary, and a 4.8-m tertiary. At present the primary mirror is planned to be spun cast at the SOML. The founding partners in LSST include, the Univeristy of Arizona, Research Corporation, the National Optical Astronomy Obsrvatory, and the Univeristy of Washington. The optical configuration will have a field of view of ~10 sq. deg. The size of each image is 3.8 Gigapixels. The night sky available from the site will be surveyed in four or five nights, amounting to ~100 Terabytes. For details go to the LSST web site: http://www.lssto.org.
